Wintering wildfowl in the Dutch – Belgian delta

A 100% birdwatching (holi)days to enjoy the spectacle of wildfowl in the Dutch-Belgian delta where, amongst thousands of White-fronted, Barnacle, Brent, Bean and Pink-footed Geese such rarities as Red-breasted or Lesser White-fronted Geese appear during winter time. This time of the year nearby lagoons also teem with wildfowl, whilst White-tailed Eagle, Perergrine, Short-eared Owl, Shore Lark, Crested Lark and Snow Bunting may be found in the adjacent dunes, meadows and coastal waters.

DAY 1

Arrival in Brussels airport from where a connecting train goes directly to Mechelen city. Then a 15 minute walk to the hotel.

DAY 2

After breakfast, pick up from the hotel by car. Full day personal guidance in the Dutch field hopping from one hotspot to another led by a guide very familiar with the area. Drop off back at the hotel in Mechelen in the evening.

DAY 3

After breakfast, pick up from the hotel by car. Personal guidance in the Belgian field hopping from one hotspot to another led by a guide very familiar with the area. Drop off back at the hotel in Mechelen in the evening.

DAY 4

A 15 minute walk to the central railway station of Mechelen for the connecting train to Brussels airport.

Notes: Schedule is flexible according flights, weather circumstances and when & where wintering geese or rarities are present. Those interested in cultural heritage: trains – leaving from Mechelen railway station – lead to all big cities nearby: Brussels, Brugge and Gent. Also host city Mechelen has a lot to offer history related!
